Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale is parting ways with Stéphane Goubert, the sports director of the Savoyard team since 2012.
The year 2024 has been incredibly successful for Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale. Achieving no less than thirty victories and forty podiums, the French team notably shone at the Giro where Valentin Paret-Peintre won the 10th stage. In the Vuelta, Ben O'Connor did better, contesting the final victory until the last week with the favorite and winner, Primoz Roglic. However, these results were not enough to save Stéphane Goubert.
“After spending 6 seasons as a runner then 13 as a sports director within our teamwe sincerely thank you for all your commitment and professionalism over all these years. We wish you the best for the future” we can read since December 31 on the account X of the tricolor formation. A cyclist until 2009, Stéphane Goubert ended his career at AG2R La Mondiale.
Then in 2012, he embraced the career of sports director within the Savoyard team for whom a new era is dawning. Before the departure of this emblematic leader, Vincent Lavenu had already left. The latter was the founder of the training and the big boss until the summer of 2023 before being demoted to a managerial role.
