Gregor Deschwanden scored the sixth podium of his career on Wednesday in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, during the second stage of the Four Hills Tour.

The 33-year-old from Lucerne had already shown his qualities during the first competition, Sunday in Oberstdorf, Germany, by taking sixth place. But Deschwanden, who is having the best season of his career with four World Cup podiums, wanted to show that he could fight up front with the best in this Tour.

Third in the first round on Wednesday, with a jump of 138 meters, he knew he could play for the win. He also took the lead after his second jump at 140.5 meters, leaving behind men like the Austrian Stefan Kraft, winner of the first competition of this Tour.

Ultimately, only the Austrian Daniel Tschofenig, with a second jump of 143 meters, managed to pass the Lucerne. Another Austrian took third place on the podium: Michael Hayboeck.

Only one other Swiss jumper participated in this final: Killian Peier. The 29-year-old Vaudois finished 30th.

In the ranking of this vintage of 4 springboards, Daniel Tschofenig took the lead, ahead of his two compatriots Jan Hörl and Stefan Kraft. And in fourth place we find Gregor Deschwanden. No Swiss has finished on the final podium since Simon Ammann’s third place in 2014.

The jumpers will meet on Friday in Austria, in Innsbruck.
