Fans of action and thrillers will be served in 2025 with several major productions likely to interest them. Thanks to Tom Cruise, Tom Hardy, Alban Lenoir and Ana de Armas, the next 12 months will be exciting in cinemas and on SVOD services.
Ad Vitam (January 10, 2025 – Netflix)
To Life is a French action thriller film directed by Rodolphe Lauga, starring Guillaume Canet in the lead role. The film follows Franck Lazareff, a former elite agent, who, after escaping a murder attempt, embarks on a desperate quest to find his wife, Léo, kidnapped by a mysterious group of armed men. This disappearance plunges him into a tangle of secrets linked to his troubled past, forcing him to confront demons he thought he had left behind. The screenplay, co-written by Guillaume Canet and Rodolphe Lauga, aims to take spectators into a dark and thrilling universe. Filmed in and around Paris, Ad Vitam arrives on Netflix on January 10, 2025.
Back in Action (17 janvier 2025 – Netflix)
Back in Action is an American action comedy directed by Seth Gordon starring Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx as Emily and Matt, a couple of former CIA spies. After leaving the world of espionage to start a family, their cover is compromised, forcing them to return to service to protect their loved ones. The film also stars Glenn Close, Kyle Chandler, Andrew Scott and Jamie Demetriou. Expected on January 17, 2025 on Netflix, Back in Action marks the return of Cameron Diaz to the cinema after a long break, since his role in Annie in 2014. This film aroused media interest, in particular because of Diaz’s return on screen and his collaboration with Foxx. The two had previously worked together on Annie.
Stray Bullet 3 (2025 – Netflix)
Lost ball 3 is the third part of the French action series directed by Guillaume Pierret. The film once again brings together Alban Lenoir in the role of Lino, an outstanding driver and genius mechanic, Stéfi Celma playing Julia and Nicolas Duvauchelle in the role of Areski. The plot follows Lino, recently released from prison, who finds himself involved in a complex new criminal case. To protect his loved ones and clear his honor, he must face formidable enemies and confront his past. The film should offer fans of the genre thrilling action scenes, frantic chases and intense confrontations, characteristic of the franchise. Announced for 2025, Lost Bullet 3 will be available exclusively on Netflix.
Ballerina (June 4, 2025 – cinema)
Ballerina is an American action film directed by Len Wiseman, scheduled for release on June 4, 2025. A spin-off of the John Wick franchise, it is set between the events of John Wick: Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. Ana de Armas plays Eve Macarro, a ballerina-assassin trained by Ruska Roma, determined to avenge the death of her father. The cast also includes Anjelica Huston as the “Director”, Gabriel Byrne as the Chancellor, as well as Norman Reedus and Catalina Sandino Moreno. Keanu Reeves, Ian McShane and Lance Reddick also make an appearance. Ballerina explores the dark and intense world of John Wick from a new angle, following the journey of Eve Macarro in her quest for revenge.
Havoc (2025 – Netflix)
Havoc is an action thriller directed by Gareth Evans, known worldwide for the diptych The Raid with Iko Uwais in the title role. Tom Hardy plays here Walker, a fallen detective who plunges into a ruthless criminal world after a drug deal goes wrong. He thus hopes to save the son of a politician against a backdrop of conspiracies and corruption which are plaguing the city. The cast also includes Forest Whitaker, Timothy Olyphant, Justin Cornwell, Jessie Mei Li, Yeo Yann Yann and Luis Guzmán. While filming ended in October 2021, Havoc will finally be released in 2025 on Netflix.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (May 21, 2025 – cinema)
Mission : Impossible – The Final Reckoning is the eighth film in the iconic action saga starring Tom Cruise. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, this new opus sees the actor reprise his role as Ethan Hunt, surrounded by Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett and Henry Czerny. The plot of this film picks up immediately after the events of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (2023), in which Ethan Hunt and his team fight against The Entity, an artificial intelligence threatening global security, by locating the submarine Sevastopol, where the Source code needed to stop this threat is hidden. Mission: Impossible 8 should offer spectacular action scenes and mark the saga with a grandiose conclusion.
